The Problem
Apple's global commerce infrastructure needed to scale across four interdependent programs: Trade-In, Checkout Redesign, Online Self-Service, and seasonal campaigns including Back to School while maintaining the quality and accuracy customers expected across every storefront. Each release wave brought new countries, new payment methods, new legal and localization requirements, and new technical environments to validate simultaneously.
The underlying challenge was the same across all four: to ship complex, interdependent buy flow features and campaign content across 20+ countries while working with vendors and team counterparts across time zones.

My Role
I was the localization lead across all four programs, coordinating testing from the UK while the rest of the core team was based in the US, which meant managing time-sensitive handoffs, staging environment access, and vendor coordination across multiple time zones.

Trade-In geo expansion: led quality assurance across multiple release waves bringing Trade-In live across 24 countries, with one wave alone launching simultaneously across 7 markets across web, mobile, and in-app experiences. Each market required geo-specific validation.

Trade-In China 3rd-party integration testing: led integration testing for the China Trade-In project, working directly with engineers and third-party logistics engineers to validate the improved localized features that addressed the root cause of a 51% pickup failure rate specifically the absence of a clear reschedule and cancellation mechanism for customers.

Checkout Redesign: used and adapted test cases from previous waves for expansion across 7 countries, 4 of which were large and complex markets. Validated geo-specific payment flows: tax collection nuances in Brazil and Mexico, financing and installment differences across Europe and the Americas, and payment method variations across Korea, Taiwan, and Thailand.

Online Self-Service: translated formal engineering user stories into executable test scripts across 9 categories from order status visibility and cancellation flows to China-specific requirements (invoice tracking, payment window expiry messaging, post-order pickup contact editing) and platform scalability needs. Each story became a test scenario with a trigger condition, expected behavior, pass/fail criteria, and market-specific variants, grounding the test suite in actual customer needs rather than purely technical requirements.

Back to School: managed localization and quality assurance for the Back to School campaign across 25+ markets, covering Education and Consumer segments across web, mobile, and in-app. Coordinated across Apple's internal marketing systems, translators, and external vendors, managing separate workflows for standard copy and transcreated headline content. Oversaw terms and conditions localization across 30+ language and market combinations, coordinating corrections across product display names, part number updates, and country-specific content exclusions. Managed screenshot capture, staging environment QA, and issue tracking across all markets, with testing conducted through Apple's restricted workshop system given the confidential nature of the campaign.

Test strategy and QA: established and executed the end-to-end test strategy across all programs, authoring 150+ test cases in total across desktop, mobile web, and the Apple Store App. Tested customer journeys from product selection and trade-in estimation through checkout, order confirmation, and post-order email communications.

Payment testing: created reusable test scenarios using dummy payment credentials to validate buy flows without processing real transactions. Validated payment method coverage across North America, Europe, Middle East, and Asia Pacific covering credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, wire transfer, gift cards, convenience store payments, cash on delivery, and financing exclusions by market.
Bug management and change control: led the approval and change management process with product and engineering across all release cycles managing risk registers, critical blockers, and bug prioritization across legal, payment, and user experience issues.

The Outcome
5× increase in Trade-In volume in China following the localized improvements, part of a broader China recovery that contributed to Apple's all-time record quarterly revenue of $91.8B, with international sales accounting for 61% of the quarter.
51% pickup failure rate in China addressed at root cause — 82% of those failures caused by the absence of a reschedule and cancel mechanism
24 countries live with integrated Trade-In buy flow at program completion
7 markets launched simultaneously across 6 customer segments and 3 platforms.
150+ test cases authored across Trade-In, Checkout Redesign, and Online Self-Service.
Back to School campaign localized and QA'd across 25+ markets and 30+ language and locale combinations.
